A comprehensive handbook has been released to provide support to countries aiming at developing and implementing effective research and innovation (R&I) policies.

The Handbook was elaborated in the  framework of the first Mutual Learning Exercise (MLE) of the OACPS R&I PSF, organised in collaboration with the UN Interagency Task Team on Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs Workstream 6 on Capacity Building (UN IATT WS6). 

Drafted by a team of experts, the Handbook reflects insights and inputs from approximately 30 directors and senior official on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) from the 15 participating countries of the MLE. Experts and policy makers actively engaged in the exchange of knowledge and experiences onsite and online over the past months. The collaborative effort that commenced in February 2023 with its launch event in Addis Ababa, culminated in an online final event in October 2023.

The Handbook underscores the critical role of R&I policies in national development, identifies gaps in these areas, and offers recommendations on possible approaches to address them, with the ultimate aim of fostering transformative change.
