The aim of this PSF service is to formulate a regional research and innovation strategy for IOC. This strategy will be aligned with the needs and challenges specific to the Indian Ocean region and its member states. It will leverage the possibilities provided by science and technology to offer suitable alternatives.
It is expected that the regional R&I strategy should also aim at:
- nurturing a conducive innovation ecosystem within the region;
- transforming the region into a hub of expertise on various island issues, the strategy will address the societal and contemporary challenges faced by Indian Ocean and African island states;
- fostering partnerships and contractual relationships with the business sector. This will serve to amplify and capitalize on research and development outcomes within the region;
- facilitating mobility between academia and the business realm as a catalyst for development;
- guiding the national R&I agendas of the IOC Member State
- contributing to achieve the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals as the objectives of the STISA 2024 and of the Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
The PSF service will be carried out by an international panel of experts in collaboration with the national team and the PSF team.
