OACPS awards grants to eight consortia to enhance Research and Innovation capacities in its Member States

From the ACP Innovation Fund, eight grant recipients will contribute to make innovation ecosystems more efficient and inclusive.

10 February 2021: The ACP Innovation Fund is a key instrument of the Research and Innovation (R&I) Programme implemented by the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to unlock innovation potential in its Member States and accelerate sustainable development. This Programme is funded by the European Union (EU) through the 11th European Development Fund (EDF).

Selected from the ACP Innovation Fund’s 2019 Call for Proposals, the grant beneficiaries (see Table) will spearhead a wide range of projects to advance solutions in the following areas:

  • increasing access to digital literacy, knowledge, and use of emerging technologies;

  • creating or strengthening effective links between R&I skills development and labour market demand;

  • establishing or enabling effective synergies in the R&I ecosystem, including with the private sector; facilitating conditions for technology transfer; promoting R&I uptake;

  • promoting local and indigenous knowledge and its use in combination with formal knowledge systems and practices.

These eight projects will launch local Call(s) for Proposals to select actors in R&I to whom they will provide financial and technical support (capacity building, peer assistance, mentoring, networking, exchange of experiences, and policy advocacy) to maximise the impact of their actions.
