The University of Goma (UNIGOM), in the framework of the VaDech-RD Congo project (a third-party project supported by PDTIE) organised the Scientific Days on December 2 to 3, 2024.
The theme was “Waste valorization in the Congo Basin: socio-cultural dynamics and environmental technologies”.
The objectives were to reflect on waste management in the Congo Basin, following a systematic three-dimensional reading grid:
- initiatives and/or institutional efforts to manage and valorize waste in this area, their underlying logics and rationales;
- the crisis of environmental awareness among citizens in this area, as well as the resulting practices of waste mismanagement; and
- the social, technological and economic issues linked to the diversification and multiplication of waste in this area.
