The East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) is set to benefit from the Policy Support Facility (PSF), established by the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). This service will support the development of a regional strategy on Innovation in the informal sector, specifically targeting informal industrial clusters, with the main objective of crafting a strategy to boost innovation in these clusters, which are crucial for competitiveness but face challenges.

A comprehensive Policy Recommendation Report (PRR) will be delivered, outlining evidence-based recommendations and a detailed implementation plan. This strategy will align with regional and national priorities and needs and broader goals like the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representatives from national science, technology, and innovation commissions of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda will be part of a consultative board that will provide insights and feedback on the PRR.

The PSF service for EASTECO aims to revolutionise innovation in the informal sector, fostering economic growth and aligning with regional and global development goals. By leveraging expert insights and systematic approaches, this initiative addresses key challenges and drives regional progress.
