News from AdaptCC_DR- project in the Caribbean

Pontificia Unidersidad Católica Madrey Maestra (PUCMM) has been running the exciting project entitled: Use of Digital Information Technologies for Adaptation of the Effects of Climate Change in Touristic Coastal Zones of the Dominican Republic (AdaptCCDR), third-party project of HIT-RESET.

On Saturday March 15th at PUCMM Santiago was celebrated the science day for girls who transform, where meritorious students from schools in the city of Santiago participated. From the Hit Reset Caribbean project, AdaptCC DR participated with the experimental station called Agents 00C: climate-city mission.

120 girls aged 12-16 participated in an experimental station where they learned how to use hand-held measurement sensors to characterize building materials and understand their impact on the environment and human thermal comfort. They also learned how to adapt the built environment to climate change effects through simulation of scanners in a digital twin. The participants saw real-time data from environmental variables transmitted by sensors and a meteorological station deployed by the AdaptCC DR project in Bayahibe, demonstrating the importance of science and research in addressing environmental challenges. They also highlighted Bayahíbe as a diving destination with unique marine biodiversity and the need to protect its reefs and the ocean’s future.
