Initial activity of the Mutual Learning Exercise on R&I strategies and policies organised in Ethiopia (14-17 February 2023)

The OACPS R&I Programme has organised the first activity of its Mutual Learning Exercise on Research and Innovation strategies and policies in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), in partnership with the UN Inter-agency Task Team (UN-IATT).

The event was divided into two parts:

  • a Knowledge Exchange Meeting (14-15 February) to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences among countries. The goal of this part was to explore successful approaches to the development and implementation of R&I policies and strategies. The insights shared during the meeting are expected to be of great value to countries looking to strengthen their ongoing, upcoming, and future R&I efforts.

Representatives from thirteen countries, mainly at the level of department directors and heads of national R&I agencies, participated in this first part and delivered an overview of their respective national R&I ecosystems.

Overviews of Research and Innovation in MLE participating countries
  • a Capacity building (16-17 February) on STI policy and policy instruments for SDGs, also attended by representatives of other ACP countries, to build awareness and understanding concerning key aspects of STI policies development and implementation, as well as innovation, entrepreneurship, open science, gender in STI, and how they relate to the SDGs.
